HEPES (pharmaceutical grade)

The molecular formula of HEPES is C8H18N2O4S. Its structure contains both an acidic sulfonic acid group (-SO3H) and two basic tertiary amine nitrogens, so it is amphoteric and can be used to prepare zwitterionic buffers. The buffer solution generally consists of a certain amount of HEPES dissolved in distilled water, and then sodium hydroxide is used to adjust the pH to an appropriate value. Its pH buffer range is generally 6.8~8.2.
